Omar Marmoush, a prolific forward who has become a top transfer target for Manchester City, is apparently being sought by Eintracht Frankfurt for €80 million (£67 million).
Liverpool first took notice of the Egypt international after he amassed 13 goals and eight assists in 15 Bundesliga games prior to the winter break. To turn around their ruined season, Pep Guardiola's struggling City is determined to add players to every part of the field.
Marmoush was rumored to be available for about £40 million, but according to Sky Sport Germany, Frankfurt will seek up to £67 million, with any price below that amount being viewed as ridiculous.
Markus Krosche, the sporting director for Frankfurt, reaffirmed the team's position on any interest in its best players.
"We essentially want to keep the team together," Krosche told Kicker last week, adding that "moving away from this position would require something extraordinary."
By maintaining that he is "not thinking about a transfer," the athlete has attempted to minimize the rife rumors. "I am living in the here and now and enjoying my time in Frankfurt," Marmoush stated.
Marmoush's contract is said to contain no buyout clause, and aside from the Premier League club's interest being confirmed, talks between City and Frankfurt have not yet started.
Another player City is interested in is Jamal Musiala, a standout for Bayern Munich. The 21-year-old has reportedly insisted that a buyout option be included in any future deal he signs with Bayern, giving City and any other suitor a set price to aim for, even though it seems doubtful that he will be moving this month.
In a double swoop for up to €80 million, Guardiola's team has already advanced in negotiations this month with the center-back combo of Vitor Reis, a teenager from Palmeiras, and Abdukodir Khusanov, a promising prospect from Lens.
After turning an almost £100 million profit during the summer transfer window, City is in a strong financial position. It is unclear, though, if they will be prepared to pay Frankfurt's high asking price for a player who has only ever scored more than five goals in the top division in a single season.
