Reports indicate that Manchester United ‘insiders’ have disclosed their genuine position on the £64m disappointment Rasmus Hojlund, given his difficulties this season.
The Red Devils made an initial investment of approximately £64m to acquire Hojlund from Serie A team Atalanta in the summer transfer window of 2023.
Man Utd focused on the unproven striker after choosing not to partake in the Harry Kane transfer drama.
The Premier League powerhouses were in need of acquiring two forwards, but their shortcomings in the transfer market forced them to depend too much on Hojlund before he was prepared.
Hojlund encountered highs and lows in his first season with Man Utd, yet he stood out as one of their more effective players in a troubled season, netting 16 goals across all competitions.
This gave Hojlund a solid foundation to excel in the 2024/25 season, yet the Denmark international has regressed and faced substantial criticism for his poor performance this term.
Hojlund has netted just two goals in his 22 Premier League appearances this season, and his subpar displays have sparked rumors about a transfer, with Serie A's Juventus reportedly keen on him.
A fresh report from The Daily Mail has disclosed what 'Man Utd insiders truly believe about Hojlund', whose 'self-assurance is shattered'.
Hojlund is facing criticism from various sources at the moment, which is partly why some within United feel sympathy for a 22-year-old who shouldn't have to bear the complete goalscoring responsibility in the strikers’ area at a club as large as Manchester United.
‘During United's prime, that responsibility was shared among Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and Teddy Sheringham.’
‘In recent years, that responsibility has shifted to Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie.’ O Carlos Tevez. Or Dimitar Berbatov. Or Zlatan Ibrahimović. Ou Edinson Cavani. All overflowing with high-level expertise that Hojlund significantly lacks.
"Club insiders mention his eagerness to learn in practice, and his attitude has remained steadfast despite his goal drought, yet others describe a player whose confidence has been completely shattered throughout this dismal season."
In positive news for Man Utd, head coach Ruben Amorim believes that 2024 summer recruit Leny Yoro will evolve into a “top player.”
He stated: “He is putting in a tremendous amount of effort.” I believe he is building muscle, all those tiny details that are not visible.
"I believe he will become an outstanding player and will enjoy a successful career here in Manchester."
“However, he understands that he must demonstrate [his skills] in every game, so he will prepare for the upcoming one.”
