Following Wednesday's Europa League final defeat, Man Utd has responded to Ruben Amorim's invitation to depart Old Trafford without receiving any compensation.
Prior to halftime, Brennan Johnson's strike gave Tottenham their first trophy since 2008, and the Red Devils lost 1-0 to conclude a dismal season.
It has been a miserable season for Amorim, who was reportedly already discussed leaving earlier this season, and the Portuguese manager offered to leave without pay on Wednesday following Man Utd's loss to Tottenham.
Amorim took over as head coach of Manchester United in November, but the team's Premier League performances and results have not improved under the Portuguese manager. Man Utd is currently 16th in the league going into the final weekend of games, with the Red Devils winning just ten games this season.
"At this time, I will not be here defending myself," Amorim declared. I find it quite difficult, hence I am unable to accomplish it.
"I have nothing to demonstrate to the audience that I will get better. Thus, there is a small amount of faith at this time. We shall see.
I am always available; if the board and the supporters decide that I am not the proper person, I will leave the following day without discussing compensation. “But I will not quit.
I have a lot of confidence in my work. As you can see, I will not alter my methods in any manner. However, according to the Daily Telegraph, Manchester United "refuse to take up" Amorim's offer to step down and depart without pay.
"Amorim's position is unaffected by Wednesday's loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final as they get ready to enhance efforts to revamp a consistently underachieving squad to the manager's needs this summer," according to reports, and the manager of Manchester United "retains the full backing" of the club's board.
As they shifted to a new system and style of play, Man Utd "accepted this season was always going to be a challenge." Amorim "was constantly conscious that his future didn't depend on the result of a single game, or his disastrous first season, and that the United hierarchy accept they are facing a long-term rebuild that requires time and patience."
With Bryan Mbeumo of Brentford and Matheus Cunha of Wolves among the names mentioned, the Red Devils will try to provide Amorim the resources he needs to lead Manchester United to victory once more the next season.
Cunha is a good player, Man Utd veteran Dwight Yorke said to gamblingindustrynews.com after hearing rumors regarding Cunha and Mbeumo. I like him. I loved the way he looked when he was with the Wolves. He will contribute a little more conviction in the attacking areas, a better presence, some grit, and some decisiveness. He has some fire in his gut, which is exactly what we need. That is something I admire about him.
"I also think highly of Mbeumo. This year, he has had a remarkable season. I also like the boy from Ipswich, Liam Delap. I am aware that he is also frequently discussed.
Having said that, all three of them are superior to the current options up front. "These are three good players, and that's what United needs. They require outstanding players to progress the club." I'm not so sure about Mbeumo and Delap, but Cunha has a little more about him.
He's the kind of player I want to watch at United, he's more exciting."
