Enzo Maresca gives guidance to Cole Palmer regarding his goal shortage

• Chelsea have experienced a dreadful decline thus far in 2025.

• Enzo Maresca discusses how a midfielder can regain peak performance.

• Cole Palmer hasn't found the net in five matches; no assists in 13 appearances.

Chelsea's manager Enzo Maresca has encouraged Cole Palmer to keep performing as he has been in order to overcome his brief scoring slump.

The Blues' star midfielder has not found the net in Chelsea's past five Premier League matches, and he is currently on a streak of 13 games without an assist — a performance that highlights the team's broader difficulties across all competitions.

Palmer missed a significant opportunity in the 2-1 loss to Aston Villa over the weekend, yet despite his struggle in scoring, Maresca maintained that he isn't concerned about the England international.

"I'm consistently worried about overall performance, but I don't worry about Cole since he's a person, and throughout the season he may experience some times of greater difficulty," Maresca stated at a press conference.

"The issue with Cole is likely that we depend on him for everything, and I've mentioned from the beginning that we should depend on the team." Certainly, we require major contributors, elite performers, such as Cole, but we have no concerns regarding Cole whatsoever.

When asked about assisting Palmer in regaining his optimal performance, Maresca suggested that the 22-year-old should not alter anything.

"Simply keep performing as he has been doing," the Chelsea manager suggested to Palmer. "The other day, I believe he had a significant opportunity, but overall, Cole's performance...we anticipate goals and assists from him in every match, making it challenging."

"He is a person." At this time, his performances likely mirror the team's struggles to score goals, indicating the need for us to be more precise when opportunities arise.
