• Ben Chilwell leaves Chelsea through the exit door after making just one appearance for Enzo Maresca.
• In 2020, the former Leicester player cost Chelsea £45 million.
• The left-back wants to return to Crystal Palace and resume his career.
According to several sources, Chelsea has decided to loan Ben Chilwell to Crystal Palace for the rest of the season.
The 28-year-old has only participated in 45 minutes of Carabao Cup action this season, as Enzo Maresca is eager to focus on different alternatives.
Chilwell was acquired by Chelsea for approximately £45m from Leicester City in 2020 and initially left a strong impact at Stamford Bridge. He also became a consistent presence for Gareth Southgate's England, displaying an admirable knack for advancing alongside his defensive responsibilities.
However, his career has been hindered by a series of injuries, including a torn cruciate ligament in his knee and multiple severe hamstring strains. Chilwell's knee problems have never been entirely fixed either, leading him to miss over 100 matches for both club and country due to injuries.
Sky Sports have confirmed that a deal has been reached for Chilwell to move to south London, where he will join a Palace team that has been improving as the season progresses. A sluggish beginning had manager Oliver Glasner anxious about a relegation struggle, but several remarkable victories at home and abroad have propelled the Eagles up the Premier League standings.
After defeating Manchester United 2-0 on Sunday thanks to a brace from Jean-Philippe Mateta, Palace is currently only four points behind rivals Brighton & Hove Albion in the top half of the Premier League standings.
They will be giving Tyrick Mitchell, who has shown that he can play both a traditional left-back and a more sophisticated wing-back role, competition on the left by bringing in Chilwell.
