Following Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana's injuries, Guehi connections have surfaced, underscoring the need for additional defensive bolstering.
When the England center-back was the target of several Newcastle United bids last summer, Guehi, who was sold by Chelsea to Crystal Palace for £18 million in the summer of 2021, was valued at £70 million. It is thought that any future deal Chelsea makes for Guehi will include a sell-on clause.
Half a season after entirely shutting out the homegrown defender and loaning him to Palace, Chelsea has also been linked to a surprise U-turn for Trevoh Chalobah.
The Blues are adamant that any January hiring does not amount to panic buying, but they do want to be prepared to move for the appropriate possibilities, according to the Telegraph.
For a while now, it has been necessary to shed a bloated roster since Chelsea has too many first-team players for Enzo Maresca to deploy on a regular basis. The availability of Ben Chilwell, Carney Chukwuemeka, Cesare Casadei, and even summer acquisition Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall for transfer has long been known. While Dewsbury-Hall only cost £30 million from Leicester City six months ago, the club would demand over £60 million for Chukwuemeka and Casadei alone.
Axel Disasi and Christopher Nkunku are the two fresh, and thus more unexpected, names that the Telegraph claims Chelsea might be open to cutting loose this month.
Throughout the Conference League and Carabao Cup this season, Disasi has frequently served as the team's captain, albeit on a rotating basis. However, the £38.5 million Frenchman hasn't played much in the Premier League and has been said to not mesh well with Maresca's style of play.
After a successful stint at RB Leipzig, Nkunku was signed for £52 million, although his debut season with Chelsea was marred by injury. He has made a lot more appearances under Maresca than the other players listed here, although he still mostly plays as a substitute in the Premier League's main event.
