Chelsea decides to recall Trevoh Chalobah's loan.

According to several sources, Chelsea, Trevoh Chalobah's parent club, has called him back from his loan stint at Crystal Palace.

Chelsea had the opportunity to end things early in January if they so desired, but Chalobah arrived to Selhurst Park last summer on a contract that would remain until the end of the season.

According to The Athletic, Chelsea has chosen to invoke the clause that brings Chalobah back to Stamford Bridge because head coach Enzo Maresca is in dire need of reinforcements following the injuries to Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana.

Maresca had previously been questioned about the potential of recalling Chalobah, but he was evasive in his responses, claiming that discussing one of his players would offend Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner.

"He is a Palace player, as I stated in the previous press conference, and I believe that is disrespectful. He plays for Palace, which is why I believe all the managers say the same thing," the Italian remarked. It is disrespectful to [Oliver] Glasner if I start talking about Trev, and it is definitely not good for me if Oliver begins talking about our players.

Between now and the conclusion of the season, the 25-year-old is "expected to play an important role" for Chelsea, possibly starting in the middle of the defense with the dependable Levi Colwill. Josh Acheampong, who has only played five games at the senior level, was in the starting lineup for Tuesday's 2-2 draw with Bournemouth despite having graduated from the Academy.

Having previously spent time on loan at Ipswich Town and Huddersfield Town, when both teams were in the Championship, and having played overseas after spending a year in France with Lorient, Chalobah will not be involved in Palace's trip to Leicester City on Wednesday as Chelsea will recall him immediately, ending his Eagles career after just 14 appearances.
